President Bola Tinubu has ordered the cancellation of all illegal land approvals on federal road setbacks and waterfronts in Lagos State. This comes after an investigation uncovered a massive land racketeering and money laundering scandal involving top government officials and private companies.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating 14 companies accused of acquiring large plots of land—some over 500 hectares—in prime areas like Banana Island, Lekki, and the Lagos Lagoon through suspicious or unauthorized means.
Tinubu warned state governors not to give out land approvals near federal roads without working with the Federal Ministry of Works and the Surveyor General. He said illegal constructions threaten national infrastructure and future development.
The EFCC has asked for documents such as land titles, development permits, and revenue agreements to continue the probe. If found guilty, companies and officials involved could face serious legal action.
