THEME÷ FROM SKILL TO SUCCESS: UNLOCKING YOUTH POTENTIAL IN AGRICULTURE.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Imo State Chapter, has launched the Agricultural Youth Empowerment 101 program, a commendable initiative aimed at equipping Imo State youths with agricultural skills and knowledge to enhance their financial growth in farming. The program is in collaboration with Speculate Farms and Agribusiness.
Food security and economic growth are critical aspects of agriculture, which plays a vital role in ensuring food security and promoting economic growth by increasing food production and reducing the risk of food shortages and price volatility. Moreover, agriculture can be a significant source of income for individuals, communities, and nations, contributing to economic growth and development. Agriculture provides employment opportunities for millions of people, both directly and indirectly, and can help reduce poverty and improve living standards. From farming and livestock production to processing and marketing, agriculture offers a wide range of job opportunities.
The program aims to empower Imo State youths with agricultural skills and knowledge, enabling them to start their own farming businesses, improve their livelihoods, and contribute to the growth and development of their communities. Comr. Stephen Daberechi Akuchie, Chairman of NYCN Imo State Chapter, emphasized the importance of agriculture in promoting economic growth, reducing poverty, and improving living standards.
The program features a two-week intensive training, which commenced on September 9th, 2025, and will end on September 19th, 2025. During this period, participants will be equipped with comprehensive knowledge and skills in agriculture. Upon completion, they will sit for an examination to obtain certification, further enhancing their employability and entrepreneurial capabilities.
The program was attended by notable individuals, including Hon. Dr. Collins Ugorji, Former Mbaitoli LGA Chairman and Senior Technical Adviser to Hon. Akarachi Amadi MHR/Founder Collins Ugorji Foundation; Hon. Engr. Innocent Ikpamezie, Member Representing Mbaitoli State Constituency Imo State House Of Assembly; Alhaji Ibrahim Salihu Babs, Hausa Northern Community Youth Leader; Comr. Justin Okoro, South East Organizing Secretary, NYCN; Comr. Lawrence Ozuzu, National Library Trust Fund; and Comr. Jeremiah Justice Speculate, Agro Consult, and other stakeholders both from the people with disabilities (PWD).
By investing in agriculture and empowering young people with agricultural skills and knowledge, we can promote economic growth, reduce poverty, and improve living standards. The Agricultural Youth Empowerment 101 program is a commendable initiative that can help unlock new opportunities for Imo State youths and contribute to the growth and development of their communities.
