The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a large number of militants surrendered in the early hours of Friday, 16 January 2026, in Cross River State.
According to a statement by the Army, the militants emerged from the surrounding creeks and presented themselves for amnesty at the Atimbo Rear Area.
Military sources said the surrender followed sustained clearance operations and continued engagement with local communities, which encouraged the militants to lay down their arms voluntarily.
The Army urged remaining armed groups to embrace peace and take advantage of the amnesty programme, assuring them of fair treatment in line with government policy.
