The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the APC-controlled Senate of taking steps that could undermine the credibility of the 2027 general elections following its rejection of a proposal to make electronic transmission of election results mandatory.

In a statement issued on Monday, the ADC alleged that the Senate’s decision was a deliberate attempt to weaken electoral transparency and pave the way for manipulation of election outcomes. According to the party, electronic transmission of results remains one of the most effective tools for preventing rigging and restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

The ADC warned that abandoning mandatory electronic transmission could return the country to an era of disputed results, delayed collation, and widespread mistrust in democratic institutions. It argued that technological safeguards are essential for credible elections, especially given Nigeria’s history of electoral irregularities.

Calling on Nigerians, civil society groups, and the international community to remain vigilant, the party urged citizens to oppose any legislative move that could compromise free, fair, and credible elections.

The ADC emphasized that the integrity of the 2027 polls must not be sacrificed for political convenience.
The party further stated that the Senate should prioritize electoral reforms that strengthen democracy rather than policies that raise suspicion and fear among voters ahead of future elections.
