The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly arrested Pastor Kelechi Benwosely Esimogu, an employee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), over her alleged involvement in a large-scale contract fraud scheme involving hundreds of millions of naira.

According to emerging reports, Esimogu was taken into custody on March 18, 2026, in Abuja, where she was said to have been apprehended by EFCC operatives during an evening operation. Her arrest followed a series of investigations into claims that she used her position and influence to deceive individuals and companies with promises of securing lucrative government contracts.

Investigators allege that the suspect collected substantial sums of money from multiple victims under the pretense of facilitating contract awards through the NDDC. However, the contracts reportedly never materialized, and the funds were allegedly diverted for other purposes. Some reports further suggest that part of the money may have been used for political mobilization activities, although this claim has yet to be officially confirmed.

Sources also indicate that prior to her arrest, Esimogu had allegedly ignored several invitations from the EFCC and frequently changed locations within Abuja in an attempt to avoid detection. Her eventual capture is believed to be the result of sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering by the anti-graft agency.

The EFCC is expected to continue its investigation, with the possibility that more victims may come forward as details of the case unfold. Authorities have not ruled out the likelihood of additional charges if further evidence emerges.

It is important to note that these allegations remain unproven in a court of law. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and the EFCC has yet to release a comprehensive official statement regarding the case.

As the investigation progresses, more verified information is expected to clarify the scope and impact of the alleged fraud.
