The Imo State Correspondent of Blueprint Newspapers and Founder of the Eleazar Iwuoha Foundation, Comrade Chidiebere Iwuoha, has received a prestigious Merit Award from Holy Ghost College Owerri in recognition of his humanitarian services and commitment to uplifting the less privileged in society.
The honour, presented during the 2026 Reunion of the Holy Ghost College Owerri Old Boys Association, was in appreciation of Iwuoha’s contributions to education, youth empowerment, and community development through his charitable foundation.
Over the past year, the Eleazar Iwuoha Foundation has gained recognition for its efforts in reaching out to vulnerable individuals and families. The foundation has distributed food items, clothing materials, and financial assistance to indigent persons in different communities, bringing hope and relief to many struggling households.
Determined to make a lasting impact in the education sector, Comrade Iwuoha recently launched an initiative aimed at supporting students with learning materials. Under the programme, exercise books and pens were distributed to secondary school students in Umueze Ogwa, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
In addition to the educational support, he instituted the annual “Eleazar Iwuoha Best Writer Award,” designed to encourage creativity, academic excellence, and writing skills among students. The initiative has already attracted commendation from teachers, parents, and community leaders who view it as an investment in the future of young people.
Not satisfied with limiting the initiative to his community alone, Iwuoha extended the programme to his alma mater, Holy Ghost College Owerri. During a special visit to the school, he donated educational materials to students and announced the establishment of another Annual Best Writer Award for the institution.
He explained that the award was created to inspire students to develop strong communication and writing skills while promoting academic excellence within the college. According to him, the modalities and guidelines for selecting winners would be determined by the school authorities.
Touched by his passion for humanity and educational advancement, the leadership of the Holy Ghost College Owerri Old Boys Association, alongside the organizing committee of the reunion, resolved to honour him with a Merit Award.
In a citation signed by the National Secretary of the association, Barrister Kayode Ojinnaka, Comrade Iwuoha was described as a shining example of the values for which Holy Ghost College stands — excellence, integrity, service, and love for humanity.
The citation praised his contributions to journalism, noting that as the Imo State Correspondent of Blueprint Newspapers, he has consistently used his platform to speak truth to power, amplify the voices of ordinary people, and champion justice through responsible reporting.
Part of the citation read: “Your pen has brought light to dark places, justice to the oppressed, and voice to the voiceless. Through your professional and humanitarian efforts, you continue to inspire hope and positive change in society.”
The association also acknowledged the impact of the Eleazar Iwuoha Foundation, which was named in honour of his late father, Councillor Eleazar Iwuoha, a respected public servant from Mbaitoli LGA.
According to the citation, the late councillor devoted his life to community service, while his son has continued the legacy through impactful acts of generosity, educational support, and empowerment initiatives targeted at improving lives.
The award has attracted commendation from members of the public, colleagues in the media industry, and beneficiaries of the foundation, many of whom described Comrade Iwuoha as a compassionate leader committed to using his influence and resources for the betterment of society.
