As part of efforts to promote grassroots sports development and discover young football talents, the Action People’s Party (APP) candidate for the Isiala Mbano State Constituency in the 2027 Imo State House of Assembly election, Hon. Chibuzor Stephen Nwokedi, has launched a N1.8 million Inter-Clan Football Tournament.
The competition, which commences on 23rd of October this year will feature teams from various clans across Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, is aimed at fostering unity, encouraging healthy competition, and providing a platform for talented young footballers to showcase their abilities.
The teams that will feature in the tournament are Amauzari, Amaraku, Umunkwo, Ugiri, Anara, Obolo, and Osuh in line with the Imo State Sports Council sporting event as part of the Organisers of the Competition.
While Speaking with our Correspondent through telephone, Nwokedi described sports as a powerful instrument for youth engagement, community integration, and talent discovery. He noted that many gifted young people in Isiala Mbano lack opportunities to display their potential and pledged to continue supporting initiatives that empower the youth.
According to him, the tournament is not merely a football competition but a strategic investment in the future of young people, adding that the total prize package, logistics, refereeing, and organizational support amount to two Million Naira (N2M)
He explained that participating teams would compete for trophies, cash prizes, medals, and other awards, while outstanding players would receive recognition to encourage them to pursue careers in football.
Community leaders and sports enthusiasts have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that will strengthen peaceful coexistence among the clans and help identify football talents capable of representing Isiala Mbano at higher levels.
Several youths also commended the APP candidate for investing in sports development, noting that the tournament would keep young people positively engaged while promoting friendship and teamwork among communities.
The competition is expected to attract football lovers, community leaders, and supporters from across Isiala Mbano, with matches scheduled to commence in the Month of October this year.
