Wike Fires Back: I Don’t Need a Campaign Role to Deliver Tinubu’s Victory

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he does not need a formal position in President Bola Tinubu’s campaign structure to help secure victory for the President in the 2027 election.

Wike made the statement while reacting to the unveiling of Tinubu’s presidential campaign council, saying campaign positions alone do not determine electoral success.

The former Rivers State governor said what matters most is the ability of politicians to mobilise support and deliver their respective wards, local government areas and states.

Wike stressed that he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), making it difficult for him to occupy a formal position in the party’s presidential campaign council.

However, he maintained that his political influence and structures would remain available to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“We don’t need to be members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. We are doing our own work,” Wike said.

The FCT minister pointed to the Rainbow Coalition, a political structure he established in Rivers State, as part of the machinery working toward Tinubu’s victory.

He also questioned the importance attached to campaign titles, arguing that holding a prominent position does not necessarily guarantee electoral success.

Wike’s comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and political actors already positioning themselves for the contest.

For Wike, the message is straightforward: he may not have a formal campaign title, but he believes he has the political structure and influence needed to make an impact at the polls.
