The Igbo National Council (INC) Worldwide is deeply concerned about the reported misconduct of Nigerian Naval operatives at Akachi Junction in Imo State. The alleged extortion of motorists and creation of artificial traffic at the Akachi Naval Outpost is unacceptable. We urge Governor Hope Uzodimma and the Naval High Command in Imo State to investigate these allegations promptly and take appropriate action to stop this illegal activity.
The INC condemns the exploitation of motorists during these challenging times, where high fuel costs already burden them. It is disheartening to witness trained Naval operatives engaging in activities beyond their mandate, such as directing traffic on expressways within Owerri City.
In light of these concerns, we call upon the Imo State Government and the Nigerian Navy High Command in Imo State to establish an investigative and monitoring team to address this issue urgently. It is imperative to bring an end to this shameful situation and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
