The Imo State Government’s appointed President General of the Irete Autonomous Community in Owerri West Local Government Area, Honorable Nnamdi Pascal Nneji, has officially stepped down from his position. This resignation follows a tumultuous period marked by his prior removal from office by certain community members due to a disputed election.
Honorable Nneji’s initial removal was deemed unlawful, prompting him to petition for his reinstatement. After a comprehensive investigation, the Sole Administrator of Owerri West, Honorable Pastor Victor Nwankwo, reinstated Nneji to his position. However, despite being reinstated less than 58 hours earlier, Mr. Nneji announced his resignation on July 2, 2024.
In a widely circulated resignation letter titled “Withdrawal of Service,” Nneji cited the insistence of his children, relatives, and advice from concerned citizens as the primary reasons for his decision. His letter reads:
“I hereby withdraw my service as the President General of Irete Autonomous Community. I thank you for the period you allowed me to serve.”

The resignation letter was copied to several authorities, including the Department of State Services (DSS) in Umuguma, the Sole Administrator of Owerri West, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ogbaku, the leadership of the Irete Community Development Union (ICDU), and the Security Adviser of Irete.
Efforts to reach Honorable Nnamdi Pascal Nneji for additional comments have been unsuccessful. However, a close family member confirmed his resignation, expressing disappointment but also appealing to the Sole Administrator, Honorable Pastor Nwankwo, who represents the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, to appoint a new President General. This appointment is essential to ensure peace, progress, and development within the community.
