Imo State is fast gaining recognition as Nigeria’s most vibrant emerging tourism destination, following a wave of infrastructural renewal, cultural revitalization, and strategic investments championed by Governor Hope Uzodimma.
This assertion was made by the Imo State Commissioner for Tourism, Hospitality, and Culture, Evangelist Barrister Jerry Egemba, during the 2025 World Tourism Day celebration held at the City Cruz Hotel, New Owerri.
Egemba, while commending the governor’s developmental initiatives, said the administration’s policies have redefined tourism in Imo by connecting development with creativity, enterprise, and community well-being.
According to him, the event’s theme, Tourism and Sustainable Transformation: The Imo Idea, perfectly aligns with the state’s ongoing transformation agenda under the Shared Prosperity Government.
Governor Uzodimma has reimagined tourism as a tool for empowerment and social growth, Egemba said. Every new road, hotel, and tourist site being developed is part of a grand vision that connects communities, creates jobs, and builds hope for future generations.
The Commissioner revealed that the state government is undertaking landmark projects, including the proposed Nwaorie–Otamiri All-Service Recreational Facility, which he described as a legacy project that will set a new benchmark for leisure and tourism in Nigeria.
He also highlighted the growing impact of the creative industry in promoting Imo’s cultural identity, commending Imo-born actors, filmmakers, and designers for showcasing the state’s natural beauty and traditions through film, fashion, and art.
Our creative talents are powerful ambassadors of Imo, Egemba added. Through their works, they present our culture, music, and hospitality to the global audience.
Egemba praised the welcoming nature of the Imo people, describing their warmth, cuisine, and cultural diversity as central to the state’s tourism appeal.
Our people remain Imo’s greatest treasure; their friendliness and creativity make every visitor’s experience unique and memorable, he said.
