The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan has not informed him of any plan to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking in Abuja, Wike addressed growing rumours suggesting that Jonathan might be considering a return to the political scene ahead of the next general elections.

He explained that although there have been several speculations about Jonathan’s possible comeback, the former president has not personally discussed any political ambition with him.

Wike urged the public to stop dragging Jonathan’s name into political debates, saying the former leader is capable of speaking for himself if he decides to run.

The minister also cautioned Jonathan to be careful with politicians encouraging him to join the race, noting that some of them were the same people who abandoned him during the 2015 elections.

Wike further stated that he has no interest in contesting the presidency in 2027, adding that his focus remains on his responsibilities as the FCT Minister.

Political observers believe Wike’s comments reflect ongoing uncertainty within the Peoples Democratic Party as talks about potential 2027 candidates continue.

For now, Jonathan has not made any public declaration about whether he plans to seek a return to the nation’s top seat.
