Yari Urges Nigerians to Take Responsibility for National Problems, Says Calling on Trump Will Not Save the Country

Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari has cautioned Nigerians against seeking external saviors, stating that only citizens themselves can fix the country’s challenges. Yari made the remark while reacting to growing social media conversations urging former United States President Donald Trump to intervene in Nigeria’s affairs.

Yari said the tendency to look to foreign leaders for solutions reflects a deeper issue of self-doubt and misplaced expectations. He stressed that Nigeria’s political, security and economic problems cannot be solved by outsiders, no matter how influential they might be on the global stage.

According to him, meaningful progress will only come when Nigerians take full ownership of nation-building, hold their leaders accountable and actively participate in governance. He warned that relying on foreign figures creates a false sense of hope and distracts from the hard work needed to strengthen institutions and restore public trust.

Yari also urged political leaders to focus on rebuilding public confidence by addressing insecurity, improving economic opportunities and demonstrating transparency in government. He added that Nigerians must unite to push for reforms rather than waiting for an international actor to provide direction.

His comments add to the ongoing national debate about leadership, patriotism and the responsibilities of citizens ahead of the 2027 general elections.
