The Rivers State Police Command has successfully rescued five students of the Rivers State University (RSU) who were abducted by suspected cultists in Emohua Local Government Area. The operation, carried out by a joint team of police tactical units, other security agencies, and community volunteers, led to the safe recovery of all victims at Rumuodogo-2.
The students were kidnapped earlier in the week after armed men stormed an off-campus lodge near the university’s satellite campus. The attack heightened anxiety among students and reignited conversations around the safety of those living off the main campus in Port Harcourt.
Police officials confirmed that the victims were not physically harmed and were immediately taken for medical examination following their rescue. Authorities have since launched a large-scale manhunt for the suspects, who fled the scene before security forces arrived.
The police command assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down the kidnappers and dismantle the criminal network behind the attack. Meanwhile, student groups and community leaders have called for enhanced security patrols and stronger safety measures to prevent further incidents.
The rescue operation has been widely praised, but concerns remain over the rising trend of student-targeted abductions in parts of Rivers State.
