Eight Muslim-majority countries, led by Saudi Arabia, have jointly announced their decision to join the U.S.-led Board of Peace.
The announcement came through a coordinated statement by the foreign ministers of the participating nations, emphasizing their commitment to promoting regional stability and supporting international peace efforts.
The countries participating in this initiative are Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
The statement highlighted that their collaboration is intended to support the board’s objectives, including conflict resolution, mediation, and post-conflict reconstruction, with an initial focus on Gaza.
The Board of Peace, proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, is designed as an international mechanism for peacebuilding. Its mandate includes overseeing ceasefire agreements, facilitating dialogue between conflicting parties, and coordinating humanitarian and reconstruction initiatives.
The United Nations has also welcomed the formation of the board under Security Council Resolution 2803, which encourages international efforts to stabilize conflict-affected regions.
Officials from the eight countries noted that the decision reflects a collective commitment to diplomacy and regional cooperation. They emphasized their shared goal of achieving a just and lasting peace in Gaza while supporting humanitarian initiatives and upholding international law.
While the announcement has been welcomed in the participating countries, some European governments have declined to join, citing concerns about the board’s mandate and its relationship with established international frameworks. In countries like Pakistan, the decision has drawn both praise for its diplomatic significance and criticism from opposition parties regarding procedural approval.
The coordinated move by Saudi Arabia and its partners represents a notable step in regional diplomacy, signaling a unified approach among key Muslim-majority nations toward international peace initiatives and conflict resolution.
