A pensioner in Abia State has advised Governor Alex Otti to refrain from spending public funds or government resources in preparation for the 2027 general elections, urging the administration to concentrate fully on governance and the welfare of the people.
The pensioner made the appeal while speaking on issues affecting retirees and workers in the state, stressing that the focus of the government should remain on service delivery rather than early political calculations. He said residents of Abia are more interested in policies and actions that directly improve their standard of living than political activities ahead of future elections.
According to him, many pensioners and civil servants are still facing economic difficulties, including the rising cost of living and lingering concerns over pensions and benefits. He urged the state government to prioritise the timely payment of pensions and salaries, as well as sustained investment in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
The pensioner also warned against the use of state resources for political purposes, noting that such actions could distract from governance and weaken public trust. He maintained that elected officials are best judged by their performance in office rather than by campaign spending or political messaging.
While acknowledging efforts made so far by the current administration, he emphasised that continued commitment to good governance would naturally earn public support. He advised the governor to allow his policies, reforms, and achievements to shape public opinion as the 2027 elections approach.
