Leaders, stakeholders, and residents of Onuimo Local Government Area have renewed calls for what they describe as a fair and equitable power rotation within Okigwe North Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At a gathering attended by traditional leaders, youth representatives, women’s groups, and political stakeholders, community members stated that it is Onuimo’s turn to produce the next member of the House of Representatives. The meeting focused on unity, inclusion, and balanced representation among the areas that make up the constituency.
Participants carried placards with messages such as “It’s Our Turn,” “Equity and Fairness for Onuimo,” and “Support Zoning for Justice.” Some of the placards also expressed opposition to the incumbent lawmaker, Miriam Onuoha, indicating that certain attendees do not support her contesting again in 2027. A few displayed slogans reading “Say No to Otu Onu,” reflecting dissatisfaction among that segment of participants.
Speakers at the event said zoning is a political arrangement intended to promote fairness and prevent marginalization within constituencies made up of different communities. They maintained that allowing Onuimo LGA to produce the next representative would broaden participation and ensure inclusive leadership.
Youth leaders present at the gathering called for peaceful engagement and constructive political dialogue as the electoral season approaches. They urged stakeholders across the constituency to prioritize unity and mutual respect despite differing political views.
The development comes amid ongoing political discussions across Imo State as various groups begin consultations ahead of the 2027 elections. Political observers note that debates around zoning, representation, and continuity are likely to shape conversations within Okigwe North Federal Constituency in the months ahead.
