The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has maintained its ban on the operations of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, and tricycles (Keke Napep) in restricted areas of Abuja, describing their activities as a serious security concern.
FCT authorities said the restriction remains in force as part of ongoing efforts to improve security, maintain public order, and ensure the free flow of traffic within the nation’s capital. Officials said the policy is aimed at protecting residents and safeguarding critical infrastructure across the city.
According to the administration, intelligence and security reports have linked the use of some commercial motorcycles and tricycles to criminal activities, including robbery, the movement of suspects, and other security breaches. The government said allowing unrestricted operations within the city centre could affect ongoing efforts to tackle crime.
Authorities warned operators to comply with the existing regulations, adding that enforcement agencies have been directed to increase monitoring and take appropriate action against violators. They also said impounded vehicles and motorcycles found operating in prohibited areas would be handled in line with the law.
The FCT Administration urged commuters and residents to use approved means of transportation, assuring the public that the restrictions are intended to improve safety and make transportation more orderly in Abuja.
The warning comes as security agencies continue efforts to strengthen surveillance and curb criminal activities across the Federal Capital Territory. Residents have also been encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement officers by reporting suspicious movements and complying with traffic and security directives.
The administration said the ban on Okada and Keke Napep in designated parts of Abuja remains in effect, adding that public safety and national security will continue to be a top priority.
