The United States is considering expanding its military involvement in the conflict with Iran, including the possible deployment of additional troops and targeting strategic locations such as Kharg Island. While no final decision has been announced, officials say a wider range of military options is under review as tensions in the region continue to rise.
Kharg Island is central to Iran’s economy, serving as the country’s main oil export terminal and an important part of global energy supply. Any direct military action against the island whether through airstrikes or a possible seizure could disrupt Iran’s oil exports and affect international markets. Such a move could also trigger retaliation and increase the risk of a wider conflict in the Gulf.
At the same time, U.S. defense planners are assessing the deployment of specialized forces, including marine units trained for amphibious operations. These forces are capable of securing key locations without requiring a full-scale ground invasion. However, the possibility of deploying troops highlights the seriousness of the situation and the limited room for de-escalation.
The conflict has already seen increased military activity, including continued air operations and the movement of U.S. assets to protect key shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
As tensions grow, the situation is entering a more dangerous phase, with upcoming decisions likely to influence the direction of the conflict and its global impact.
