Opposition Lacks Strength to Unseat Tinubu in 2027, Says Orji Kalu

Kalu, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), argued that the opposition has failed to build the cohesion and strategic direction needed to win over the electorate. According to him, no opposition candidate at present has the political structure, nationwide appeal, or policy clarity required to defeat Tinubu in what he described as a free and credible election.

He further dismissed allegations that the ruling party is undermining democratic institutions, maintaining that Nigeria’s electoral system remains independent. Kalu insisted that claims of interference are often exaggerated by critics who are unable to mobilize sufficient grassroots support.

Expanding on his position, the senator noted that the APC continues to grow stronger due to internal consolidation and the steady influx of defectors from rival parties. He likened the party’s rising influence to a “moving train,” suggesting that its momentum across different regions of the country makes it increasingly difficult for any divided opposition to compete effectively.

Kalu’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about the state of Nigeria’s opposition, particularly as key figures attempt to form alliances ahead of 2027. However, persistent divisions, leadership struggles, and ideological differences have slowed progress toward a unified front capable of challenging the ruling party.

As Nigeria moves closer to the next election cycle, political observers believe the outcome will ultimately depend on several factors, including the performance of Tinubu’s administration, the ability of opposition leaders to build credible coalitions, and the overall mood of the electorate.
