Definitely, for the position in question, maturity and experience doubly count. Having left an indelible mark on political map of Imo State, with the outgoing House Member Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh, having attained the position of Speaker in the House of Assembly Leadership, Obowo cannot go for half measures, sending her 3rd Eleven to the House. Basil Amobi Ekweke, a former elected Local Government Council Chairman and the immediate past State Assistant Organizing Secretary of APC in Imo State, to offer a scintillating and effective representation to Obowo State Constituency.
From a solid political dynasty, Basil Ekweke is the son of late Hon. Nathaniel Onuigbo Ekweke, who was the Chairman of Etiti County Council, which transformed into Etiti Local Government Area, before it was split into two Local Governments Areas, Obowo and Ihitte Uboma.
Basil Ekweke is a humble and easy going personality who loves his people and his people love him. He is a veteran journalist, having cut his journalistic teeth at Champion Newspapers in Lagos. Out of his burning desire to serve his people, he returned home to join politics and as God would have it, he won election in 2010 to become the Executive Chairman of Obowo Local Government Council.
He is a professional to the core, as he is as at today, the Editor of The Onion Newspaper, Owerri. He possesses true and unrepentant love for his Local Government Area Obowo and his people, hence he decided, at this point in time, to come out once more to bring succour to his people, by going to represent them most effectively at the Imo State House of Assembly, come 2027, so as to make the difference.
Hon. Ekweke is not the noise making type. He is calm, calculative and painstaking, with a knack for efficiency and loyalty. Having been a Local Government Council Chairman, he understands the needs of his people and ready to provide succour to them, by providing sound empowerment to emilioarate their hardships, as well as enhancing development of the area. With his experience, he can through the instrumentally of the House machinery, reach out to the Executive arm of Government in the state, to attract developmental projects to the Local Government. Ekweke also intends to look into the education needs as well as solving unemployment problems of the youths of his State Constituency. He is a bridge builder between the high-ups and the lower levels in his Constituency.
