Governor Alex Otti has named the newly commissioned Umuahia Central Bus Terminal after Professor Nnenna Oti, the returning officer who announced his victory during the 2023 Abia governorship election.
The facility, now officially called the “Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal,” was unveiled in Umuahia as part of ongoing efforts to improve transportation and modernise infrastructure across Abia State.
Professor Nnenna Oti became widely known during the 2023 elections for her firm stance on transparency and due process while collating election results under intense public attention. Her conduct earned praise from many Nigerians and civil society groups who viewed her actions as a strong example of integrity and professionalism.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Otti said the decision to honour her was meant to celebrate courage, honesty, and commitment to democratic values. He added that recognising individuals who uphold fairness in public service would encourage accountability and inspire future generations.
Residents and supporters welcomed the development, describing it as a meaningful gesture that promotes ethical leadership and rewards dedication to national service.
The new bus terminal is expected to improve transportation within Umuahia, boost commercial activities, and provide commuters with a more organised and modern travel experience in the state.
