President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that criminal activities such as banditry, terrorism, and senseless killings are completely against the teachings of Islam, calling on Nigerians to uphold peace, compassion, and national unity during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The President made the statement shortly after observing the Eid prayers in Lagos, where he addressed journalists and Muslim faithful on the importance of the sacred festival. According to him, Eid-el-Kabir is not only a season of celebration but also a period for deep reflection, sacrifice, and commitment to humanity.

Tinubu stressed that no religion promotes violence or the destruction of innocent lives, noting that individuals hiding under religion to commit crimes are misrepresenting the true values of faith.

“Islam teaches peace, love, tolerance, and respect for human life. There is nowhere in the holy teachings that supports banditry, violence, or criminality,” the President stated.

He urged Nigerians to remain united despite ethnic, political, and religious differences, emphasizing that the country can only progress in an atmosphere of peace and mutual understanding. He described Nigeria’s diversity as a blessing that should strengthen national development rather than create division.

The President also called on citizens to show kindness to the less privileged during the festive period by sharing food, offering support, and extending love to those in need. He noted that the essence of Eid-el-Kabir lies in sacrifice, generosity, and obedience to God.

Speaking on the security situation in parts of the country, Tinubu reassured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to tackling insecurity and restoring peace across affected communities. He said security agencies are continuing efforts to combat criminal elements threatening the nation’s stability.

He further appealed to religious leaders and community stakeholders to continue preaching peace, tolerance, and moral values capable of guiding young people away from violence and extremism.

The Eid-el-Kabir celebration, observed by Muslims across the world, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. The festival symbolizes faith, sacrifice, charity, and devotion.

Many Nigerians have described the President’s message as timely, especially amid growing concerns over insecurity and rising cases of bandit attacks in several parts of the country.
