LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the reinstated Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to remain committed to the party and focus on rebuilding the state following his return to office.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Lagos PDP congratulated Governor Fubara on his reinstatement after several months of political unrest and constitutional uncertainty in Rivers State. The party described his return as a victory for democracy and urged him to seize the moment to promote unity, good governance, and accountability.
The party expressed concern over growing speculation that the governor might defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). They cautioned that such a move would not only undermine the confidence of PDP supporters but also risk destabilizing the fragile peace that has recently been restored in the state.
The Lagos PDP emphasized that this is a defining moment for Fubara, urging him to stand by the party that supported him during the crisis. They reiterated that remaining with the PDP is critical to maintaining continuity in governance and delivering on the promises made to the people of Rivers State.
In addition to party loyalty, the PDP called on Fubara to ensure transparency and accountability in governance. They urged him to initiate a review of the actions taken during the six-month emergency administration that followed his suspension. The party believes that the people of Rivers State deserve to know how the state was managed during that period.
The statement also called for reconciliation between political factions in Rivers State. The Lagos PDP advised Fubara to mend relationships between the executive and legislative branches and reach out to aggrieved stakeholders in a bid to restore stability.
The party noted that now is the time for purposeful leadership that prioritizes the needs of the people above political differences. It stressed the importance of resuming governance with a renewed sense of responsibility and inclusiveness.
As Governor Fubara resumes full duties, the Lagos PDP reminded him that public expectations remain high. The party encouraged him to focus on infrastructure, economic development, job creation, and public welfare. It called this an opportunity to write a new chapter in the state’s history and to demonstrate strong, people-centered leadership.
Governor Fubara has yet to publicly respond to the Lagos PDP’s message, but political observers believe his decisions in the coming weeks will be closely watched, particularly as discussions about his political future continue to unfold.
