Criticisms have been directed towards former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu, by the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This comes following Okechukwu’s recent call for the removal of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, signed by Chief Mike Ezeanyanwu, the Publicity Secretary of the party, APC Enugu State expressed their disappointment with what they perceive as a pattern of attacks on APC leaders in the Southeast zone. Okechukwu was described as an “attention-seeking political jobber” who has lost touch with his political base in the Udi local government area of the state.

Recalling Okechukwu’s suspension by the state chapter for allegedly working against APC candidates during the 2023 general elections, the party rejected his claim of being a founder of the APC. Instead, they portrayed him as a “known jobless character” who relied on gossip, propaganda, and media hype to curry favor with former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Despite his controversial past, the party accused Okechukwu of attempting to regain relevance by launching attacks on Governor Uzodimma. They suggested that he has been enlisted by disgruntled politicians within and outside the Southeast to undermine Uzodimma’s leadership, whom they praised as a pillar of the APC in the region.

In conclusion, the APC chapter in Enugu warned Okechukwu and his alleged sponsors to refrain from insulting Governor Uzodimma. They emphasized the governor’s contributions to the party’s consolidation in Enugu state and the Southeast zone.
