Iran has declared that any retaliation from Israel will be met with a much larger response, threatening to target US bases if Washington supports Israeli counterattacks. Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Iran’s armed forces chief of staff, issued the warning on state TV, stating that Tehran had conveyed this message to Washington regarding potential backing of Israeli actions.
Furthermore, Iranian leaders emphasized that any Israeli retaliation would result in a decisive and stronger response. President Ebrahim Raisi stated that reckless behavior from Israel or its supporters would prompt a significant reaction from Iran.
The recent tensions stem from an alleged Israeli airstrike on Iran’s embassy compound in Damascus on April 1, which resulted in casualties among the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iran justified its retaliatory operation, stating it was in response to this attack.
Hamas, in support of Iran, described the military operation as a rightful response to the targeting of the Iranian consulate in Damascus and the assassination of Revolutionary Guards leaders.
Israel, currently engaged in a prolonged conflict with Hamas, reported minor damage following Iran’s attack and reopened its airspace. Meanwhile, the United States announced plans to discuss a diplomatic response with other major powers.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps leader warned of a “new equation” following the attack on Israel, indicating that Iran would directly respond to any future Israeli actions targeting its interests, assets, or citizens.
Additionally, Iran’s Chief of Staff, Sardar Bagheri, issued a warning to the US and Israel through the Swiss embassy, cautioning that cooperation in potential future attacks would result in insecurity for US bases, which would be dealt with accordingly.
