Press Statement
The Igbo National Council (INC) Worldwide have condemned in Strong terms the unprovoked wanton attacks and killing of five (5) Nigerian Soldiers at Obikabia Military Checkpoint at Ogbor Hill in Aba, Abia State on 30th May, 2024 in the name of enforcement of illegal Sit-at-Home orders.
The Igbo National Council (INC) therefore call on the Nigerian Security Agencies to deploy every form of intelligence, strategy and tactics in line with the 1999 Constitution to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Furthermore, INC Condemn the Unlawful restrictions of movement of citizens by non State actors in South East Region. The call for Sit-at-Home by any group whatsoever for any reason breeches Sections 35, 38, 39 and 41 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Amended.
The position of the Igbo National Council (INC) is that the calls for and enforcement of the Sit-at-Home in South East Region is a huge sabotage to the Economy, Polity, Culture and Security of the Region which will have a long term negative effects on the Region. Again, it is also a brutal violation of the Fundamental Human Rights of the residents of the South East Region of Nigeria.
On the foregoing, INC plead with the residents of Aba, Abia State to Support the security agencies with every necessary information that will Lead to the immediate arrest and prosecution of members of the gang that carried out this devilish act against the Nigerian Military and the South East Residents.
The Nigerian Military is doing everything within their reach to provide effective security for the protection of lives, properties and livelihoods of Nigerians and therefore we don’t see any justifiable reason any person or group of people will wake up to launch an unprovoked attack on the military at checkpoints in the name of enforcement of Sit-at-Home Order.
