The National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA ) , on Wednesday, handed over food commodities to Imo state government which is targeted to vulnerable person in Imo .
Speaking during the presentation of the food items at government house Owerri, the Director General of NEMA, General Zubaida Umah , noted that the palliatives is federal government approved food commodities, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which is targeted to the vulnerable persons in Imo .
General Zubaida Umah , who was represented by the acting Zonal Director, South East , Major Eze , informed that federal government released 21,060 bags ( 50 kg) of maize and 5,068 bags (25 kg) of garri . He added that the above food items will be shared equally to all the 27 Local Government Areas of Imo State.

He disclosed that 20 % of the food items for each local government area will be shared to religious organization, while 3% will be distributed to boarding schools .He further said that the Committees has been set up in each local government area to ascertain that the food items gets to the targeted individuals.
The Committee members according to the NEMA boss include, State Emergency Management Agency ( SEMA) , traditional rulers , Department of State Service, Nigerian Police Force , Nigeria Union Of Local Government Employees, Red Cross Society, among others.
Appreciating the gesture, Imo state governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, represented by the Secretary of Imo State Government, Chief Cosmos Iwuh , thanked me management and staff of NEMA for the kind gestures . He said that the food items will help to alleviate people ‘s suffering.
Chief Iwuh , appreciated the governor for his efforts in making sure that Imo citizens’ welfare is granted . He urged the Committee members to make sure that the food items gets to the targeted individuals.
Present at the occasion are , Owerri Head Of Operations NEMA , Mr Igwe Nnamdi , Mr Oramalu Quintus , some other staff of NEMA, SEMA , traditional rulers, Sole Administrators of the 27 LGAs in Imo , top government officials, religious leaders, among others.
