Hon. Jahn Ezenwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ahiazu-Mbaise Local Government Council Executive Chairmanship in the upcoming September 2024 elections, extends his heartfelt congratulations to the sons and daughters of the Mbaise Nation for the successful celebration of the 2024 Iri-Ji Ndi-Mbaise (New Yam) Festival.
In his goodwill message, Hon. Ezenwa lauded the rich cultural heritage and the remarkable sense of unity displayed by the Mbaise people during this highly esteemed occasion. He praised the community’s steadfast commitment to preserving the ancient traditions that continue to strengthen the bonds of kinship and promote peaceful coexistence among the various communities within Mbaise.
Hon. Ezenwa underscored the significance of the Iri-Ji Festival, noting that it serves as a symbol of prosperity, gratitude, and communal harmony within the Mbaise Nation of Imo State. He expressed his sincere wishes for the continued progress and well-being of the Mbaise people, hoping that the spirit of the festival would inspire even greater achievements and foster deeper cooperation among them.
With deep respect, Hon. Ezenwa acknowledged the resilience, strength, and cultural pride of the Mbaise communities. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to serving their interests and aspirations with dedication and integrity if given the opportunity to lead as the Executive Chairman of Ahiazu-Mbaise Local Government Area in the upcoming September 2024 Local Government Council Elections.
Additionally, Hon. Ezenwa elaborated on the significance of the New Yam Festival, explaining, “The New Yam Festival, known as ‘Iri Ji’ or ‘Iwa Ji,’ is a time-honored Igbo tradition that marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of a new agricultural cycle.”
According to Hon. Ezenwa, the festival, typically held between August and October, involves a series of thanksgiving ceremonies, cultural performances, rituals, feasting, and competitions. These activities not only foster community unity but also serve to preserve and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo people.
