A leader in Akwakuma Autonomous community in Owerri North LGA of Imo state has commended the people of his community for coming out enmass to celebrate their cultural heritage “Emume Akwakuma 2025 “
Interacting with Newsmen at his residence after a reception, the respected illustrious son of Akwakuma community and Chief Executive officer of Kanick properties and Investment Limited , located at No. 53 Zanders street in the capital city of Owerri , described the festival as celebration of peace , in his words ” Emume Akwakuma is a celebration of peace ,at this time no quarrel or dispute , the festival also urshers in the farming season” Chief Ukawuike concluded.
Speaking further , Chief Ukawuike a real estate developer also prayed that the annual festival should be sustained , as he enjoined parents to inculcate cultural values into their children and wards.
Recently , there was an atmosphere of funfare and jubilations as the Indigenes of Akwakuma Uratta Autonomous Community in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State trouped out enmass to celebrate their annual ” Emume Akwakuma ” amidst pomp and pleasantries
The well attended event which took place at the market square, was followed by a grand reception at the palace of the host HRH Eze David Nnawuihe Onuegwunwoke, (Eze udo 111 of Akwakuma).
The year’s event enshrined b with celebration of staff of office of the traditional Ruler witnessed the presence of notable, personalities and captains of industries who graced the event, amongst whom is Oha Akwakuma and host of others.
In a chat with newsmen after the event the Traditional ruler and custodian of culture in Akwakuma Autonomous Community, HRH Onuegwunwoke thanked God for a successful outing.
Speaking on the essence of Emume Akwakuma, he said it marks the beginning of the farming season,
HRH Onuegwunwoke who was recently honored with a staff of office, said the celebration has been age long, he reiterated that it started from their fore fathers, he denounced the notion that Emume Akwakuma is a fetish celebration.
Citing a brief history of Emume Akwakuma he disclose that, “it was formerly called Emume Nmiri Nmuo (Nnworie), my dad changed the festival to a Christian festival.
HRH Onuegwunwoke who who came on board on August 2022 enjoined the people of Akwakuma to continue in their peaceful disposition as he made his plans known to support the 3R administration of governor Hope Uzodimma.
In his remarks the President General of Akwakuma Ancient Kingdom Chief Sir Paschal Emeana said” I am so happy my community celebrated 2 good things, today is Emume Akwakuma and we are celebrating our staff of office.
We are known for Emume Akwakuma, it brings peace and unity”
He thumbed up for Governor Uzodimma for providing good health care, education and other laudable projects to Akwakuma community.
In his speech the planning committee chairman Mr.Geoffery Anyanwu thanked God for a successful event .
