Govt.Orders Eviction Of Illegal Occupants On Imo Green Verges

by admin

The Imo State Government has directed the immediate eviction of all illegal occupants and removal of unauthorized structures encroaching on government-owned green verges across the state.

In a firm statement issued by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Monitoring and Compliance, the government reaffirmed that no agency—including the Imo State Housing Corporation—is authorized to allocate any portion of green verge for private or commercial use.

This action follows credible investigations revealing a disturbing trend of fraudulent and backdated allocation documents being presented by illegal occupants.

A notable example is a recently circulated document, allegedly issued in favor of Hon. Clinton Amadi for a plot within the Aladinma Garden Estate.

Officials have confirmed that such documents lack any legal foundation and are outrightly void.

The government stressed that green verges are public lands designed for critical infrastructure purposes, including drainage, road buffer zones, and utility easements.

Any private development or use of these areas contravenes state urban planning laws and poses serious risks to road safety and flood management.

Speaking on the matter, the Special Adviser to the Governor stated:

“The Imo State Government is resolute in its commitment to upholding urban order and protecting public infrastructure.

Encroachments on green verges obstruct stormwater flow, compromise road durability, and violate public interest.

These illegal actions will not be tolerated.”

All individuals and businesses currently occupying such spaces have been issued a final warning to vacate immediately.

The government has made it clear that failure to comply will result in forceful eviction and possible legal prosecution.

Furthermore, residents are strongly advised to refrain from engaging with fraudulent agents or touts peddling fake allocation papers for government verges.

Any purported allocation on such land is invalid and criminal.

The public is encouraged to report suspicious activities or questionable land allocations to the Office of the Special Adviser on Monitoring and Compliance or the Imo State Ministry of Lands for prompt action.

The Imo State Government remains committed to the rule of law, responsible governance, and the long-term sustainability of its infrastructural investments.

Signed,
Office of the Special Adviser to Imo Governor on Monitoring and Compliance.
