In the recent State Executive election for the Special Marshals 9.4 Owerri, Comrade. Joy Fide-Nwaogu has been elected as the new Imo State Coordinator.

The election, which encompassed key positions such as State Coordinator, Deputy State Coordinator, Secretary, and Public Enlightenment Officers (PEOs), took place on Saturday at the Imo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) 9.4, Owerri.

Joy Fide-Nwaogu secured her position by defeating her opponent, Dr. Happiness Osuigwe, with a total of 27 votes.

Dr. Osuigwe, who previously held the state coordinator position from 2021 to 2025, received 15 votes, thereby losing to her former deputy, Joy Fide-Nwaogu, who will oversee the Team for the next four years.

At the conclusion of the voting, the Chairman of the 2025 electoral committee and current Imo State FRSC 9.4 Sector Commander, CC Oji Udensi, informed journalists that the election utilized a secret ballot system, allowing delegates from 15 Special Marshals units in Imo State to participate through their unit coordinators, deputies, and secretaries.

Udensi emphasized the democratic nature of the election, describing it as peaceful, free, and credible, reflecting the will of the delegates.

He explained that the Special Marshals function as volunteers within the FRSC, distinguishing them from regular marshals, adding they are dedicated and prominent individuals of the society contributing to road safety, traffic management, law enforcement, and community services.

Urging eligible citizens to join the Special Marshals, Udensi called on the newly elected executives to return to the core principles of the Team, encouraging them to execute their roles with all seriousness and compassion, which he noted would earn them the respect and gratitude of Imolites.

Earlier in her acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated State Coordinator of Imo Special Marshals, Comrade Fide-Nwaogu, pledged to revitalize and reform the Special Marshal Team, with the aims to restore authority at the unit level to enhance their active participation in state activities.

Fide-Nwaogu expressed her concern over the neglect of unit-level functions within the Team, vowing to change this narrative and elevate the Team’s standing.

“The redundancy that has plagued the Special Marshals at the unit level will no longer exist, as I am committed to empowering these units to engage proactively in both local and state activities,” Fide-Nwaogu asserted.

Extending an olive branch to her opponent, Dr. Happiness, Fide-Nwaogu who also is the Deputy Director of Admin Imo State Universal Basic Education Board, invited her to collaborate on advancing the Team and suggested that she consider running in the forthcoming zonal election.

Prominent leaders, including Dr. Lazarus Okoroji, a lecturer at FUTO and the newly inaugurated PEO of the Team, Hon. Willie Okolieogwo, Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Njaba Unit member of the Team and Sir Maurice Ahamefula Okoro, Deputy Unit Coordinator of FUTO, expressed their congratulations to Fide-Nwaogu.

They encouraged her to fulfill her promises and drive positive transformation within the organization.
