President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially approved the appointment of Deputy Controller-General Olumode Samuel Adeyemi as the new substantive Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), with effect from August 14, 2025.

The announcement was formally conveyed through a press release issued on Wednesday by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB). The statement, signed by the Board’s Secretary, Abdulmalik Jibrin, signals a significant leadership transition in the nation’s emergency response architecture.

Adeyemi’s elevation follows the scheduled retirement of the current Controller-General, Engineer Abdulganiyu Jaji Olola, who is set to leave office on August 13, 2025, upon reaching the statutory retirement age of sixty years.

Olumode Samuel Adeyemi brings to the position decades of experience in fire and emergency service operations. He began his professional journey with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service before transferring to the Federal Fire Service, where he climbed the ranks to serve as Deputy Controller-General overseeing Human Resource Management at the agency’s national headquarters.

Over the years, Adeyemi has undergone all mandatory in-service training courses, including high-level command programs, and has participated in specialized fire service and emergency management trainings both within Nigeria and abroad.

In addition to his professional track record, Adeyemi holds fellowships and memberships across several national institutions. These include the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, the Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria, and the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management of Nigeria—highlighting his multifaceted qualifications in administration, finance, and leadership.

In its statement, the CDCFIB commended the outgoing Controller-General, Engineer Jaji, for his meritorious service and transformational leadership. Under his tenure, the Federal Fire Service saw structural improvements, expanded training programs, and upgraded operational capabilities across the country.

As the agency prepares for this transition in leadership, stakeholders in the fire and emergency services sector have expressed optimism that Adeyemi’s appointment will bring renewed energy, professionalism, and strategic focus to the Federal Fire Service.
