The chairman of the Imo State Chapter of Labour Party, (LP) Bar Calistus Ihiejiagwa, has dispelled the rumour making the rounds that the party’s national chairman, Bar. Julius Abure, has been removed from office by INEC and the judiciary, describing it as handiwork of enemies of the party.
Ihiejiagwa made this known in Owerri, the Imo State Capital during a telephone interview with National Newsbreak Newspaper on Monday, 18th, August, 2025.
According to him, there is no court judgement anywhere in the country that notified the national convention of the party held on the 27th of March 2024, at Nnewi, Anambra State, where Abure was duly and verlidly elected as national chairman of the party.
” No court in Nigeria has, till this moment, set aside or nullified the outcome of the most recent national convention of the Labour Party held on the 27th of March, 2024, at Nnewi, Anambra State.
The legal luminary who frowned at the story that INEC had stated that Abure’s tenure of office had expired or elapsed, challenged the rumour mongers to visit the commission’s portal to accertain whose name is there.
He pointed out that it is not within constitutional provision or framework for either the electoral umpire or the court to intervene or interfere with political party matters, referring to the story as a misleading piece orchestrated by enemies within the party.
” This story is not only false but also misleading. It is nothing but the handiwork of enemies within the party who are hell bent on discrediting, distracting and disintegrating the party. But they will not succeed” Ihiejiagwa stated.
“Abure remains the Labour Party national chairman, detractors should shield their venomous swords and allow him to use the party to liberate Nigerians” He submitted.
