The Executive Chairman of Onuimo Local Government Area in Imo State, Hon. Dr. Emeka Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to mobilizing residents for the ongoing voter registration and revalidation exercise, describing it as a critical step toward ensuring political inclusiveness and democratic participation.

In a phone interview with journalists on Wednesday, Dr. Obi expressed satisfaction with the high turnout of eligible voters across communities in Onuimo. He attributed the development to growing political awareness and civic responsibility among the people.

“We’ve moved past the era when people ignored their civic duties. Today, the people of Onuimo are politically conscious and eager to be part of the democratic process. I am genuinely impressed by the turnout,” he said.

According to the chairman, a stakeholder retreat was recently organized, bringing together councillors, traditional rulers, youth and women leaders, and members of the clergy. The retreat served as a platform to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign aimed at educating citizens on the importance of voter registration.

“I’m currently in the field, monitoring the registration process to ensure everything runs smoothly. INEC officials have been efficient, and there have been no reported hitches. The response from residents has been overwhelmingly positive,” he added.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Dr. Obi projected a decisive victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the party’s widespread popularity in Onuimo and beyond.

“Onuimo is APC territory. From the House of Assembly to the Presidency, we are confident of victory. The APC has demonstrated genuine commitment to empowering the informal sector. Artisans and small business owners are seeing tangible results from the President’s policies, and there is renewed optimism across the board,” he stated.

Dr. Obi also referenced recent remarks attributed to the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, which he said affirmed signs of recovery in Nigeria’s economic indicators.

“Things may be tough now, but that’s the price of rebuilding. This administration is addressing the deep-rooted damage left by previous governments. We are witnessing a reset—a foundation being laid for sustainable growth,” he said, urging Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the APC-led government.

Highlighting his achievements in office, Dr. Obi credited the strong relationship he enjoys with his constituents as a driving force behind his administration’s success.

“I operate an all-inclusive government. Within just one year in office, we’ve recorded significant progress, thanks to the support of the people. I am fully aligned with Governor Hope Uzodimma’s 3R agenda, and like him, I believe in practical, people-centered governance. He is rightly called the ‘Infrastructural Governor’ for his visible impact across the state,” he concluded.
