The Nigeria Forest Security Service has remained the missing link in the Nigeria Security system hence Prof. Edwin Opara advocates for its effective engagement into the national security system with a view to end the challenges of insecurity in Nigeria.
Speaking to newsmen in owerri the Imo State capital, the Deputy Commander General (DCG) on Bureau policy, strategy and planning – prof Edwin Opara has continued to advocate for the urgent recognition of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) into the Nigeria security system to help effective coverage of all forest’s areas in Nigeria. According to prof Edwin Opara he said, ” The beauty and the results oriented security of the United States of America is as a result of their recognition of a forest Security called America Forest Law Enforcement Agency. Presently, the Nigeria forest’s areas are very porous hence it help in increasing high rate of crime. No doubt, the challenge of insecurity today is all traceable to our forest’s areas. But if the federal government will recognize the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) which is now in all the 36 states and 774 local government areas of the federation. Indeed, it is obvious that after the recognition of NFSS, the insecurity challenges will be over “.
In another development, the professor in Criminal Justice and Criminology and former Head of department in Coppin State University Baltimore Maryland U.S A, DCG – Prof. Edwin Opara commended the members of the National Assembly for their timely recognition of the important of Nigeria Forest Security Service and the bill passage. Hence, advocate for Mr. President Sen. Ahmed Tinubu to sign the bill into law as a recognized security outfit, then the challenge of insecurity in Nigeria will rapidly reduced.
It was gathered that the wealth of experience of prof Edwin Opara who has effectively served with the United States of America Forest Law Enforcement Agency will significantly help the Nigeria Forest Security Service to be results oriented in the discharge of their duties. Again, it is on record that the officers of the Nigeria Forest Security Service has being trained by the Nigeria Army, Nigeria Police force and the Nigeria Security & Civili Defence Corp across the federation hence they are prepared to face the challenges of insecurity in the Nigeria forest’s areas.
” The porosity of the forest’s areas in Nigeria is what promotes the insecurity such as terrorism, kidnapping, insurgency among others. Hence, the NFSS will position her officers in strategic locations to ensure prohibition and restrictions of any criminalities in Nigeria forest’s areas ” – Prof Edwin Opara said.
