The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has revealed that it has invested more than N30 billion since January to strengthen security across public tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The Fund said the intervention became necessary due to the growing wave of insecurity affecting universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in many parts of the country.
According to the agency, the funds were used to upgrade surveillance systems, install modern security equipment, improve perimeter fencing, and train personnel to enhance safety on campuses. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to protect students, lecturers, and vital educational infrastructure from kidnappings, attacks, and other security threats that have disrupted academic activities in recent years.
The Fund explained that a secure learning environment is essential for quality education, research growth, and national development. It added that the multi billion naira commitment reflects its determination to ensure that tertiary institutions remain safe, functional, and conducive for learning.
With insecurity placing continued pressure on Nigeria’s education sector, the intervention by the Fund is expected to bring some relief to institutions while encouraging stakeholders to intensify collective efforts to improve campus safety nationwide.
