Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged the federal government to institute an immediate and transparent investigation into allegations that some government officials are supplying ammunition and logistics to terrorist groups in the country.
Obi described the allegation as alarming and a serious threat to national security, noting that if confirmed, it would amount to a grave abuse of office and a major setback in the fight against insecurity.
He said security agencies must handle the matter with urgency and professionalism, stressing that the battle against terrorism cannot succeed if there are elements within government structures aiding criminal groups.
According to Obi, Nigerians deserve full disclosure and accountability, adding that openness in addressing such claims is critical to rebuilding public trust and strengthening the country’s security system.
He added that a comprehensive probe would help uncover the truth, ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice and reaffirm the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property nationwide.
