Morocco head coach Walid Regragui and team captain Achraf Hakimi have made their ambitions clear ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, declaring that the Atlas Lions are aiming for nothing short of lifting the trophy on home soil.

Speaking as preparations intensify for the tournament, Regragui stressed that hosting AFCON brings both pressure and opportunity.

The coach said Morocco must embrace the expectations that come with playing in front of home supporters and channel that energy into winning performances.

He explained that the squad has matured in recent years, blending experienced internationals with emerging talents, and believes the team now has the mentality and quality required to compete for the title.

Regragui also pointed to Morocco’s long wait for continental success, with their last AFCON triumph dating back to 1976.

He described the 2025 edition as a rare chance to end that drought and reward Moroccan fans who have remained loyal to the national team over the decades.
Captain Achraf Hakimi echoed his coach’s confidence and placed emphasis on unity and collective responsibility.

The Paris Saint Germain defender, who recently returned from injury, said the players are fully focused on the team objective rather than individual recognition. He noted that every member of the squad is ready to contribute, whether starting matches or playing a supporting role.

Hakimi further highlighted the importance of discipline, commitment and consistency throughout the tournament, noting that success at AFCON requires focus from the group stage to the final.

He added that playing at home should serve as motivation rather than pressure, as the team aims to make the nation proud.
With AFCON 2025 set to kick off in Morocco, the Atlas Lions enter the tournament as one of the favourites.

Backed by strong home support and driven by a clear mission, Regragui and Hakimi have set their sights on continental glory and the chance to write a new chapter in Moroccan football history.
