One security operative has been confirmed dead following an ambush by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on a Joint Task Force (JTF) patrol in Borno State, underscoring the persistent security challenges in Nigeria’s North-East region.
The attack reportedly occurred while the JTF patrol was carrying out a routine security operation along a strategic route in the state. The patrol, made up of security personnel working to secure vulnerable communities and prevent insurgent movements, was ambushed by the insurgents who opened fire from concealed positions.
During the encounter, one operative lost his life, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The patrol team was said to have responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a gun battle that eventually forced the insurgents to retreat into nearby hideouts.
Security sources disclosed that reinforcements were later deployed to the area to stabilize the situation and prevent further attacks. A mop-up operation was also launched to track the fleeing insurgents and restore confidence among residents of surrounding communities.
Borno State has remained a focal point of insurgent activity despite sustained military offensives against Boko Haram and its splinter groups. Attacks on patrols and convoys continue to pose risks to both security forces and civilians, highlighting the ongoing nature of the conflict.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining counter-insurgency operations in the region, assuring residents that efforts to degrade insurgent networks and improve overall security will continue.
