Staff members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have openly rejected a recent judgment delivered by an Ibadan court, declaring that the ruling does not affect the legitimacy of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Senator Ibrahim Turaki.
The party workers, under the aegis of PDP National Secretariat Staff, said claims suggesting that the court judgment nullified the Turaki-led NWC were misleading and aimed at creating confusion within the party.
Speaking in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, the staff maintained that the Ibadan court neither dissolved the existing NWC nor directed that control of the party’s affairs be handed over to any other group or faction.
They described the ruling as being deliberately misrepresented by interested parties seeking to destabilise the opposition party ahead of crucial political engagements.
“The judgment of the Ibadan court has been wrongly interpreted. At no point did the court invalidate the National Working Committee led by Senator Ibrahim Turaki,” the statement said. “The PDP staff recognise and continue to work with the Turaki-led NWC as the legitimate leadership of the party.”
The workers further noted that the matter remains subject to ongoing legal processes, adding that the party’s legal team is already taking steps to seek clarification and protect the institutional integrity of the PDP.
They urged party members across the country to remain calm, law-abiding, and loyal to the party’s constitution, warning against actions that could deepen internal divisions.
The Ibadan court ruling had sparked fresh controversy within the PDP, with rival camps offering conflicting interpretations of its implications for the party’s national leadership. The disagreement has further highlighted the lingering leadership crisis that has affected the party in recent months.
Despite the tension, PDP staff expressed confidence that the issues would be resolved through due legal process, insisting that until a final judicial pronouncement is made, the Turaki-led NWC remains the recognised authority of the party.
