A Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Life Camp, Abuja, has issued an interim injunction restraining activist Omoyele Sowore and the online news platform Sahara Reporters from publishing or circulating further materials alleged to be defamatory against the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The order was granted by Justice J.O.E. Adeyemi-Ajayi after considering an ex parte application filed by counsel to the IGP. In granting the interim relief, the court directed the defendants to refrain from making additional statements or publications concerning the police chief pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
The injunction is intended to maintain the status quo while the court examines the claims brought before it. The case is expected to proceed to a full hearing, where the parties will have the opportunity to present their arguments and evidence for judicial determination.
