The Board of Trustees (BoT) faction aligned with Minister Nyesom Wike convened in Abuja on Wednesday to discuss the implications of a recent Appeal Court judgment upholding the nullification of the party’s November 2025 national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The meeting, held at the party’s Abuja secretariat on Sabo Ago Street, LifeCamp, brought together BoT members duly notified to attend and focused on assessing the next steps for the party in light of the court’s decision.
Last week, the Court of Appeal in Abuja affirmed a Federal High Court judgment that declared the PDP’s national convention invalid. The court held that the party did not comply with an existing court order and failed to meet legal requirements before conducting the convention.
In response, the Wike‑backed BoT, led by Chairman Mao Ohuabunwa, highlighted the need for strict adherence to the rule of law.
Members at the meeting stressed their commitment to guiding the party through the legal hurdle and ensuring operations continue within the boundary of judicial directives.
BoT leaders said the group recognised by the courts would provide the necessary leadership and stability at this critical time. They urged party stakeholders to rally around legally recognised structures to preserve the integrity and cohesion of the PDP.
A rival faction of the PDP, led by Kabiru Turaki and supported by a separate National Working Committee, has indicated plans to challenge the Appeal Court ruling at the Supreme Court. While both sides maintain a commitment to the PDP’s success, they differ on interpretation and next steps following the court’s judgment.
With the party preparing for primary elections scheduled for April and May 2026, leaders from all factions have called for unity and a collective focus on presenting a strong front for the general elections. Senior party figures have also urged a swift resolution to the ongoing legal disputes so the PDP can concentrate on grassroots mobilisation and candidate selection.
