Nigerian troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled an early-morning attack by suspected fighters from Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province in Doron Baga, located in Borno State, Nigeria.
According to security sources, the insurgents launched a coordinated assault on a military formation in the community during the early hours of the morning. The attackers attempted to overrun the base and possibly seize weapons and military equipment. However, troops stationed at the facility quickly mobilized and engaged the militants in a fierce gun battle that lasted for a considerable period.
During the intense exchange of fire, Nigerian soldiers successfully overpowered the insurgents, forcing them to retreat from the area. Several of the attackers were reportedly neutralized in the operation, while others fled into nearby areas to escape the advancing troops. The military subsequently recovered a number of weapons and ammunition abandoned by the fleeing fighters.
Military authorities confirmed that the troops maintained full control of the base throughout the confrontation. Security forces also launched follow-up patrols and clearance operations in surrounding communities to track down the fleeing insurgents and prevent further attacks.
Doron Baga, a strategic town along the Lake Chad region, has remained a frequent target for insurgent groups due to its proximity to key supply routes and its importance to ongoing counter-insurgency operations in northeastern Nigeria. Despite repeated attempts by militants to destabilize the area, Nigerian forces continue to strengthen security operations to safeguard communities and maintain territorial control.
