The Imo State chapter of the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) has commended its members for complying with directives on a statewide cleanup and sanitation exercise in their water production facilities.
In a statement issued by the Chairman, Engr. Bismarck Lumanze, the association expressed satisfaction with the effectiveness of the three-day production shutdown, which runs from Monday, March 16 to Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
Lumanze explained that the exercise is a routine measure introduced by his administration to promote hygienic water production practices for the benefit of consumers within and beyond the state.
He noted that the temporary shutdown provides operators with the opportunity to thoroughly clean their production environments, replace filters, carry out treatment tank backwashing, and wash storage facilities, among other essential maintenance activities.
According to the statement signed by Engr. Lumanze: “The leadership of ATWAP in Imo State is delighted with the overwhelming cooperation by our members concerning the three-day production shutdown directive for water factories to undergo proper hygienic practices.
This is a periodic exercise initiated by the current leadership to ensure the production of safe and healthy water for consumers. During this period, members are expected to thoroughly clean their production environments, replace filters, carry out treatment tank backwashing, and clean storage facilities.”
He added that these efforts demonstrate the association’s commitment to public health and consumer safety.
