The National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Surv. (Rtn.) Onyinye Okafor, MNIS, PHF, has congratulated the Women-in-Surveying (WIS), Eastern Region, on its maiden Biennial Conference, which begins today, Wednesday, August 26, in Enugu, Enugu State.
Surv. Okafor, in a statement personally signed by her and obtained by this reporter, expressed excitement over the conference, describing it as a testament to the growing visibility, impact and contributions of women surveyors to the development of the surveying profession in Nigeria.
“It’s a thing of pride and celebration that women across the country, particularly those in our noble surveying profession, are taking leading roles in finding solutions to the challenges confronting humanity.
“Women are increasingly rising to the occasion, taking on greater responsibilities and making significant contributions across various sectors. The maiden WIS Eastern Region Conference is a testament to this remarkable progress and the growing leadership role of women in the surveying profession,” her statement read.
She described the theme of the conference, “Redefining the Role of Surveyors in Nigeria’s Smart Cities and Urban Renewal Agenda,” as apt, noting that it highlights the indispensable role of surveyors in infrastructural development and nation-building.
According to her, WIS, a sub-group of the NIS, provides female surveyors with a platform to promote professional development, mentorship, networking, knowledge sharing and greater visibility for women working across different areas of the surveying profession.
Okafor further noted that the maiden biennial conference would provide an avenue for participants to exchange professional knowledge, examine challenges confronting women in the profession, explore opportunities for career advancement and strengthen collaboration among surveying professionals across the Eastern Region and beyond.
The NIS National Publicity Secretary, who has served WIS meritoriously in various capacities, including as former Coordinator of WIS, Imo State Chapter, former Eastern Region Secretary and former National Publicity Secretary, commended women for their contributions and achievements across various fields of human endeavour.
She particularly praised women surveyors for their brilliance, hard work, resilience and remarkable exploits in advancing the profession.
