The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a nationwide directive to construction companies, mandating the immediate installation of proper and compliant road signs at all project sites. The Corps said the directive became necessary following increasing concerns over inadequate or missing signs, which continue to contribute to avoidable road crashes across the country.
According to the FRSC, contractors handling road repairs, expansions, or new road projects must ensure that warning signs, speed limit indicators, and diversion notices are clearly displayed to guide motorists. The agency emphasized that road users often encounter sudden construction zones without proper notice, creating dangerous situations that can lead to accidents, traffic congestion, and property damage.
Officials of the Corps also noted that safety measures during road construction are not optional but a statutory requirement for all firms engaged in highway projects. The FRSC explained that enforcement teams will be deployed to monitor compliance, and any company found neglecting safety standards may face sanctions in line with national road regulations.
The Corps urged construction firms to cooperate fully, stressing that the directive is part of a broader effort to reduce crashes and protect both motorists and construction workers. It reiterated its commitment to enhancing road safety nationwide through consistent enforcement and collaboration with stakeholders in the transportation and infrastructure sectors.
