Workers under the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Monday staged a protest at the National Industrial Court in Abuja, calling for the removal of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The protesters, who gathered early at the court premises, accused the FCT administration under Wike of policies they described as anti-worker and oppressive. Chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards with various inscriptions, the workers demanded urgent government intervention to address what they termed persistent violations of workers’ rights and welfare.

According to the protesters, ongoing disputes between labour unions and the FCTA have remained unresolved, despite several attempts at dialogue. They alleged that recent actions by the FCT authorities have worsened industrial relations and threatened job security, prompting the decision to seek judicial and public attention through the protest.

Security personnel were deployed to the area to maintain order, while court activities were reportedly disrupted by the demonstration. As of the time of reporting, there was no official response from the FCT minister or the federal government regarding the demands raised by the workers.
