A Kaduna-based Islamic cleric has expressed heartfelt sympathy with residents of a community in Kwara State following a violent attack by suspected bandits that reportedly claimed lives and led to the destruction of homes and other valuables.
In a condolence message released on Tuesday, the cleric described the attack as a tragic reminder of the worsening security situation facing many rural communities across Nigeria. He lamented the loss of innocent lives and prayed for divine comfort for families affected by the incident.
According to him, acts of banditry and violent crime have continued to inflict pain on ordinary citizens, stressing that no community deserves to live in fear or grief. He urged residents of the affected area to remain resilient and united despite the tragedy.
The cleric also called on government authorities and security agencies to take decisive steps to address the security challenges in Kwara State and neighbouring regions. He emphasised the importance of proactive intelligence gathering, improved surveillance, and stronger collaboration between security operatives and local communities.
Reports indicate that the attackers stormed the community late at night, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents. Many villagers reportedly fled into nearby bushes for safety, while several houses were set ablaze during the invasion.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants operated for hours before fleeing, raising concerns over the response time of security agencies. The attack has left the community traumatised, with many residents now seeking refuge in neighbouring villages.
Community leaders have appealed to the Kwara State Government and the Federal Government to urgently deploy more security personnel to the area, warning that failure to act could expose other communities to similar attacks.
The Kaduna cleric concluded his message by praying for lasting peace in Kwara State and the nation at large, urging leaders at all levels to prioritise the safety and welfare of citizens.
