Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has issued a strong warning to civil servants, stating that lateness and absenteeism will no longer be accepted in the state workforce. This follows a surprise visit to government offices in Awka, where he raised concerns about the low number of staff present well after official resumption time.
During the visit, the governor noticed that many offices were still empty after 10:00 a.m., a situation he described as unacceptable and harmful to productivity. In response, he ordered that any worker not at their duty post by that time should face immediate disciplinary action, including suspension without pay.
The governor explained that this step is part of ongoing efforts to improve discipline, efficiency, and accountability in the civil service. He noted that public service is a serious responsibility and that repeated absence from duty affects the government’s ability to serve the people properly.
Although the directive does not mean automatic dismissal, it shows a strict stance against negligence. Workers who continue to ignore the rules may face more serious consequences if they fail to meet expected standards.
This action is one of several measures introduced by the Soludo administration to improve the performance of the state’s civil service and ensure that government workers carry out their duties responsibly.
